Awards and Press for Ada’s and The Seattle Box

It's been an exciting week for news at Board & Vellum, as we've just heard about winning a lot of awards for our work at Ada's Technical Books & Café and the Seattle Box Remodel. Rather than spread it out, we'll just announce it all at once, right here.

It has been a great week at Board & Vellum with lots of exciting press.  I was going to divide it all out into separate posts but they've come so fast and furious that I thought I would get on my soapbox for just one post for now!

If you missed it, the Seattle Box Remodel project was featured in this past Sunday’s Seattle Times’ Pacific Northwest Magazine.  For a better overview of the house and additional photos, check out our portfolio page for it.  The article can be found here.

Ada's Technical Books & Café

Celebrating Reuse

Secondly, and as previously mentioned, Ada’s Technical Books and Café won a citation from the Residential Architect Design Awards.  Huge news on a national scale that still has us all a bit giddy.  Check out what they had to say here.

Thirdly, the Board & Vellum team was honored to stand with the Owners and Contractor team (Model Remodel) from Ada’s Technical Books and Café and accept an award at Historic Seattle’s Sixth Annual Preservation Awards this past Tuesday at the Good Shepherd Center. The role of community was foremost in our mind while designing this project and it was such an honor to receive the recognition from a group that has done such wonderful things to preserve Seattle’s history.  While the structure that Ada’s was in was by no means historically significant, the history of the place really helped define the neighborhood and ground the new space to the past.

We were privileged to work with clients who understood that there were economic and social benefits to working with older structures and incorporating them into their business model.  Creative thinking sometimes requires jumping outside of normal development modes and I’m glad to see the project do so well.
