Tom is a multi-disciplinary designer with a background in landscape architecture and urban planning. He is particularly interested in how social, political, and economic factors shape the built environment and has experience working at multiple scales within the private and public sectors. From rural master plans to urban gardens, every project holds a special interest and challenge.
When it comes to design, Tom doesn't like to be pigeonholed. He enjoys thinking about the big picture and how everything fits together, but also tends to dwell on the details, especially things others may not be paying attention to.
Even at a young age, Tom had an interest in design, spending much of his childhood drawing, designing, or building something. This love found its home outside in Tom's passion for plants and the natural environment – an affinity that grew from camping and hiking around the Pacific Northwest with his dad and gardening with his mom.
He holds a Master of Science in City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington. He has also served two terms on the Edmonds Architectural Design Board.
