General Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Landscape Architecture. Some positions may require professional licensure.
  • Knowledge of plant types along with a passion for the profession.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign), and Microsoft Office, along with a general comfort with technology.
  • Experience and basic understanding of how to use Revit ideal.
  • Excellent hand sketching skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-honed graphic presentation and visual communication skills.
  • Desire to be involved in every phase of projects.
  • Proactive, engaged, and able to handle multiple projects and tasks.
  • Passionate about asking questions and engaging in critique.
  • Dedicated to a practice of constant learning and continuing education.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary, creative environment.

Landscape Architect

Board & Vellum is looking for a talented, self-motivated individual to join our team as a Landscape Architect working primarily on single-family projects of varying scales. The candidate should have excellent project management experience and skills, and be adept at managing staff and workload projections across multiple projects. Candidate should have an interest in progressing their career to become a Studio Manager, helping mentor younger staff, and coordinating with other firm leaders on budgets and deliverables. The ideal candidate is extremely organized, works well with clients and colleagues, enjoys mentoring, and is driven to help grow a creative design firm. You’ll have the opportunity to work on all phases of projects from design through construction. In our multidisciplinary firm, you’ll be working closely with other architects, interior designers, and landscape architects, on projects large and small — including taking part in our open crit culture across other disciplines and sectors. Salary commensurate with experience, range: $90k-$110k.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Experience: 7+ years of professional design experience with a degree in landscape architecture. Professional license in Washington State required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Solid skills in Revit and proficiency in LandFX and Photoshop. Bonus points for familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, or Enscape.
  • Hand Sketching: You should be able to hand sketch ideas to explore design concepts. Your graphic presentation skills are excellent.
  • Documentation Skills: You are adept at smartly picking up redlines and have extensive experience in drafting them. You have a strong grasp of assembling contract documents.
  • Execution-Oriented: You are detail-oriented, highly organized, and drive projects forward to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results. You have the ability to fully run the landscape portion of multiple single-family projects, including complex projects, and lead project teams collaboratively. You thrive when you diligently complete your task list.
  • Design Acumen: You love making things beautiful through a creative eye for detail and a passion for storytelling. You understand how spaces evoke emotion and how every design choice contributes to a cohesive narrative.
  • Communication Skills: You can confidently communicate ideas, collaborate with teammates, and engage with clients to bring designs to life. You have demonstrated ability to manage others, coordinate workflow, mentor, and oversee project delivery processes.You do what you say you’re going to do.
  • Excitement for the Work: You are excited to work on custom residential projects. You have experience in Seattle and with regional single-family projects, and an interest in multifamily projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with multi-discipline project teams to develop design concepts and documentation, ensuring alignment with client goals and project narratives.
  • Pull beautiful design packages together, help curate gorgeous material palettes and planting plans, and create work that you are proud of.
  • Participate in the proposal and fee development process for new project prospects.
  • Take ownership of project deliverables, focusing on accuracy, quality, and meeting deadlines.
  • Produce design documentation and technical drawings using Revit with precision and efficiency.
  • Be active in the local community with a passion for community engagement.
  • Participate in a collaborative studio culture where your voice and ideas are welcome.
