Bold Colors & Textures in an Updated Resident Lounge

Canopy Apartments

Refreshed common spaces bring new life to a family-friendly apartment community.

Located in Everett, Washington, the Canopy Apartments are a celebration of the area’s natural beauty. The goal was to reimagine this dated apartment complex into a community that felt approachable, modern, and family-friendly, providing a haven from the town center.

Surrounding the apartments is abundant natural beauty, with a creek running through the site and a buffer of mature trees. The new design of the interior spaces reflects the serenity of the property through the introduction of organic, earth-inspired elements into the space. With minimal changes to the existing structure, the interior spaces are lively and inviting.

The main area of focus was improving first impressions in the leasing offices and resident lounge. Now, upon entry, residents and guests are greeted by multiple seating areas, each fitted up in natural materials. Wood, stone, and leather take on a playful look and feel in a bold color palette of burnt orange, lapis, and emerald green.

Café seating under a custom light installation just off the entryway offers a convenient spot for working, studying, or relaxing with a book. Beyond is a more intimate gathering space, enclosed by a wooden partition to grant more privacy to the area without fully separating it from the rest of the lounge.

The kitchen and resident lounge area are also separated by a wooden, gable-shaped partition, diving the space while still allowing a visual connection between them. In the lounge, an emerald green couch anchors the room, providing a cozy spot to curl up and enjoy the glow of the fireplace.

The common kitchen is enclosed within the gable-form of the wooden partition. The exposed beams are adorned with twinkling fairy lights, boosting the ambiance and simulating the feeling of dining beneath the stars. A sky blue backsplash brightens the space and creates a pleasing visual landscape when paired with the leafy greens of the lounge.

Now, the Canopy Apartments both look and feel relaxing and inviting, centered around the natural beauty of its location.
