A New Home Above Puget Sound

Modern Cantilevered Residence

A new, clifftop home with expansive water views and a dramatic deck.

Sited on a steep cliff with sweeping views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains beyond, this cantilevered home embraces the panoramic views, reaching out to the water physically and visually. Generous glazing on the water-facing side of the home and a large, cantilevered deck provide a constant connection to the beautiful Pacific Northwest views, from both indoors and out.

The cantilevered west side of the home is complemented by another cantilever off the north side of the house, allowing the floor plate to extend beyond the face of the garage. This expands the square footage of the home while maintaining a smaller footprint. The interior of the home features a classic Pacific Northwest materials palette: simple concrete and drywall juxtaposed with warm wood and blackened steel on the open stairs.

The street-side façade of the residence is composed of richly-toned horizontal cedar siding paired with a large concrete form with generous glazing emphasizing the dramatic staircase inside. The warm wood siding helps soften the street elevation and contrasts with the opposite side of the residence, which is clad in gray, blending into the sky when viewed from the water below.
