Hi there!

My name is Juliana, and I’m excited to join the Board & Vellum team!

I was born and raised in San Francisco and feel lucky for the culture and diversity that afforded me. Growing up, I think two interests really influenced how I saw and approached the world: art and nature. I always liked drawing and seeing what my hands could create. Since I grew up in a city, I had little exposure to more “wild” forms of nature, but I have always appreciated the more urban forms of nature that were available. I loved staring out at the wide expanse of the Pacific Ocean and exploring the local parks. This wonderment at the natural world around me led me to the University of California, San Diego to study ecology and psychology which eventually brought me back to San Francisco to work in the nonprofit and public sectors. After a few years back in my hometown, I felt an urge to further explore my passions for art and the environment in a new setting and set off for the Master of Landscape Architecture program at the University of Washington.

Once I was in Seattle, I was enchanted by all the greenery, mountains, and water. Though there were some similarities to my hometown, Seattle’s scenery can’t be beat. I had never considered myself an outdoors person before moving here, but now even I feel like I want to be outside more and soak up all the natural beauty around me. I remember being especially captivated by the industrial structures and views of Gas Works Park the first time I visited on a beautiful spring day.

Outside of work, I like to sketch, read, travel, and try all the food Seattle has to offer. I discovered urban sketching during grad school and I enjoy being able to really slow down and see a place in order to try to capture its essence in a sketch. I’ve been lucky to do a fair amount of traveling over the past few years so sketching is a more personal way for me to capture these experiences.

I’m excited to be working at Board & Vellum and look forward to helping realize projects that bring beauty and thoughtfulness to our shared built environment with an eye towards environmental and cultural concerns.

Though our firm has evolved over the years, our values have not, guiding us to adopt the philosophy of a high-performance team.
