Since our beginning, we’ve been dedicated to charting a different path.
This is not your average design firm.
We’re a group of passionate designers who care more about your projects than our egos.
Working in a design firm usually brings up connotations of late nights, ego-driven bosses, and grueling schedules. We have no interest in any of that.
Since our founding, we’ve dedicated ourselves to creating a culture where our team brings their full selves to the table. We believe in collaboration both inside the firm and with external collaborators: we know we all have something to learn from everyone. We all play revolving project roles, and we are all committed to bringing up the team as a whole. The people who work here all do a bit of everything and we all take the responsibility our clients place in us very seriously.
Community is important to us.
We take the time to foster community: both the one inside our office walls and in our neighborhood on Capitol Hill in Seattle, through community-building volunteer work and outreach.
We really care about work/life balance.
It’s no secret that creativity suffers when we are stressed out and sleep-deprived. We know that we all do a better job when we maintain a healthy work/life balance, and we make a point of encouraging it!

Architecture firms have a notorious reputation. We’ve thrown out the book on how a normal design firm operates and have been consistently recognized as a great place to work, committed to equitable practices. Happier employees means happier clients, it’s just that simple.

Our Story
Board & Vellum is a young and vibrant firm built on the idea that an informed and engaged team leads to better design and happy clients. We wouldn’t be where we are today without passion and hard work, and those same two things keep us going strong today.
Our Process
Bringing your project from “idea” to fruition is a little different at Board & Vellum. We give personal care to each of our projects, and you’ll be in the loop every step the way. The bonus: we are an integrated firm, so each project has access to plenty of great knowledge — and that leads to better design.
