Introducing, Katie!

By Katie MalloryJanuary 14, 2016

Hello, Board & Vellum!

I am so happy to be joining such an amazing and talented group of people.

I was born and raised in Minnesota. I’ve always loved creating homes. When I was a kid, I would spend more time setting up the rooms for my dolls than actually playing with them, and would make shoebox houses for my small stuffed animals. They were always elaborate, down to miniature beds, tables, art, and tissue boxes. Those shoebox houses eventually grew into building forts in the woods and cornfields in my backyard, and drawing up plans for the many renditions of my future dream home. In 6th grade a friend told me that there was an actual job where you got to make and design people’s homes for them. It sounded too good to be true, but from that point on I knew that is what I was going to do when I grew up.

Katie Mallory Minnesota

I went to the University of Minnesota and received my BS in Interior Design. While in school I was able to explore other passions, art forms, and design fields by taking classes in photography, dance, graphic design, and printmaking. I also had the opportunity to study and intern abroad in London for a summer. I interned at a small High-End Residential and Boutique Hotel firm. After school, I worked at Ethan Allen as a Design Consultant for 3+ years working with many different clients, and helped them turn their houses into their homes. More recently, I was an Interior Designer at an amazing firm in Minneapolis called Shelter Architecture.

I fell in love with Seattle while visiting in college with a friend. Upon my arrival home I told everyone I would live in this great city one day, so when my husband got a job offer out here this summer, I readily agreed to the move.

When I’m not designing, I love getting out in the great outdoors, hiking, kayaking, snowboarding, long boarding, camping; you name it. I also have a love for photography, going to concerts, yoga, good coffee, and nature documentaries.

To wrap things up, I love what I do. I am passionate about Interior Design and improving people’s lives through their surroundings. I believe in gaining an understanding of the way people live and creating environments that reflect their individual lifestyles. I also believe that thoughtful, beautiful designs can add to our happiness in life, and when we are happy we can achieve great things.
