I’m Michael. I’m a landscape designer and I joined the B&V landscape architecture and site design team in March 2018. Seattle has been home for the past six years now, but there's so much left to explore. Currently, I reside in the Ravenna neighborhood utilizing the new light rail connection to Board & Vellum! It has been pretty exciting to be a part of the B&V lifestyle and further grow the site design team.
Prior to Seattle, I grew up just outside Chicago. My design career started at Iowa State University, but Colorado State University ultimately was the match for my landscape architecture education. At Colorado State, the program taught me to utilize the many tools and resources we have available as designers, while emphasizing hand graphics skills. In my free time, I rode bicycles for the university and hit the ski slopes as much as possible.
After university, I worked in San Francisco for a few years at a high-end residential landscape architecture firm. The opportunity to live and work on sites in San Francisco and Northern California's wine country was an invaluable opportunity in my design career. After moving to Seattle, I worked with GGLO and Site Workshop; these firms allowed me to be on the forefront of neighborhood parks in Seattle, South Lake Union development, and residential sites in our evolving city.
Here at Board & Vellum, I am excited to be at a firm that allows us to be fully integrated with our architecture and interiors teams. I'm especially excited to incorporate new design tools like virtual reality that allows our clients to experience their spaces before they're built.
Outside the office, I try to keep moving. During the week, you could find me riding around town or at the climbing gym; and on the weekends I chase the ever elusive non-rainy weather to ski or climb in the mountains near Seattle.
