Walnut and Carrera Marble Kitchen Preview

It's time for another construction update! This time, it's for our Chef's Kitchen project, which is coming along beautifully. Check out these progress photos that will get you all excited (like us) to see the project completed!

June 20, 2013

I've been down recovering from a tonsillectomy, so I'm behind on posting some fun construction updates from various projects. This particular kitchen has a few more weeks until completion and I can't wait to get it photographed and move the happy owners back in. In the meantime, I wanted to post a couple of preview photos.

The goal with this material palette was to keep it crisp, simple, modern, and classic looking. Walnut and high gloss white cabinets look great now and are timeless enough to look great in 20 years. To keep the "classic" approach going we picked a cost effective Carrera marble in a traditional subway pattern. Using tight grout joints the simple tile creates a very dramatic backdrop when used on such a large scale (we clad a whole wall with it). The other trick with marble is to ensure it can stand up to the abuse of a kitchen. As I've written previously, Carrera marble can stain very easily... but it looks so good! To deal with it, we rolled up a stainless steel counter with an integral backsplash to keep the water away. Keeping the counters as stainless steel in this spot tightens up the palette and doesn't introduce a stray material. Clean, simple, classic, and beautifully modern. I can't wait to show you the finished product.
