Rooms, defined by color, flow one into the other. Windows from all sides usher in light. The Hearthstone fireplace rotates to face either the dining or living room. Anatoliy made the coffee table, salvaged Doug fir from old basement beams. Stephanie’s father made the chair. (Benjamin Benschneider/The Seattle Times)

Stephanie also really wanted “a room with shelves for books with a piano in it that we could close off.” Just such a place sits right inside the front door, an “away room” with an inviting window seat that includes storage. (Benjamin Benschneider/The Seattle Times)

The home has so many built-in cubbies, cabinets and shelves that furniture needs are minimal. The dining room includes a china cabinet and buffet. There is even storage between rooms. White and traditional window trim helps the home feel larger and lends a cozy feel, playing off the concrete floors. (Benjamin Benschneider/The Seattle Times)

Another favorite feature for Stephanie, an attorney, is “having space for everything.” She made all of the home’s roman shades, working from her craft room. “Yes,” she says, “there was cussing.” (Benjamin Benschneider/The Seattle Times)

The third floor serves multiple functions; Anatoliy’s office, family room and a sauna. Friend and neighbor Yulia Godiashcheva painted the birch murals. “During Seahawks games we’re always going between the TV and the sauna,” says Stephanie. (Benjamin Benschneider/The Seattle Times)
