June 9, 2016

A little over five years ago, I left my position at GGLO and went to go start Board & Vellum. I remember thinking it was pretty insane, as we were still feeling the pains of a horrific recession. I thought it was worth the risk to go out and forge my own path, however, so I made a business plan and set up an office in my attic. Board & Vellum 1.0 was born.

This past week, the 20 of us working at Board & Vellum held an open house celebration in our brand new digs. We’re now working in a custom space, designed by us, and spreading out over two floors. Board & Vellum 5.0 is here.

If I can be so bold, it is freaking awesome.

At the celebration, hundreds of clients and friends joined us, and there was room to spare. We had karaoke in our “Below Grade” event space, mingling in our main floor kitchen, and people milling about in our employee lounge. To be frank, it was a little mind-blowing for me to see the birth of Board & Vellum 5.0 in such a short period of time. We finally have a space that feels like us. Our team is beyond grateful, and more than a little excited to show it off, especially since we’ve been so crowded for such a long time.

I recapped a bit of our history back in January in this post, but suffice it to say, we’ve gone from my attic, to a small Pioneer Square office, to a tidy little office, to a tidy little expanded (but then suddenly VERY crowded) office, to our current space in all of five years. Phew. So what does our new space look like? Pop on over to the pretty pictures in our portfolio.

In designing the space, we did what we always do, and held a series of design crits to get the staff excited and get the creative ideas flowing. Taking everyone’s input, we crafted an office that reflects our vision as a company. And, we don't just mean internally. We love to collaborate, so we got help with our lighting design from Destination Lighting.

We're looking forward to many years here, and think that Board & Vellum 5.0 is going to have some staying power with all of our breathing room. Next time you're in the neighborhood, please feel free to drop by for a tour and a game of foosball!.
